    Submit a booking request

    Complete our online booking form at least 3 working days before departure to allow time to confirm flight availability and crate requirements.

    We confirm your pet's details

    We review your pet's breed, size, crate requirements, destination, and preferred travel dates before confirming the booking.

    We arrange the flight

    Your pet is booked on the earliest suitable Air New Zealand cargo service. You will receive confirmation and an invoice. Note: Air NZ may not confirm space until 48 hours before departure.

    Check-in by our approved agents

    Our security-cleared Star Pet Travel representatives check your pet in at the airport. Under aviation regulations, members of the public cannot do this themselves.

  5. 5

    Safe, climate-controlled travel

    Your pet travels in the dedicated cargo hold designed for live animals - temperature-controlled and monitored throughout the flight.

    Collection at destination

    Owners or nominated receivers collect the pet from the cargo terminal on arrival. We advise on exact collection procedures for each airport.

  • Pets must travel in an IATA-approved crate
  • Puppies and kittens must meet minimum age requirements
  • Some breeds may require larger crates or specific crate types
  • Sedation is not permitted under airline and IATA rules
  • Bookings must be made at least 3 working days before departure

Sedation is not permitted by airlines or IATA under any circumstances. If you have concerns about your pet's anxiety during travel, please discuss options with your veterinarian before booking.

Can I travel on the same flight as my pet?
Yes - Air New Zealand allows passengers to travel on the same flight as their pet (cats and dogs only). Your pet must travel in an IATA-approved pet carrier that meets airline safety requirements. Full details are available on the Air New Zealand website.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Bookings must be made at least 3 working days before departure. This allows time to confirm flight availability, crate sizing, and airport agent coordination. Note: Air New Zealand may not confirm space until 48 hours before departure - this is outside our control.
Can members of the public check in their own pets?
No. Under aviation security regulations, pets travelling as cargo must be checked in by an approved agent. All Star Pet Travel representatives are security-cleared and authorised to check in pets on your behalf.
What pets can travel domestically?
We specialise in dogs and cats for domestic travel within New Zealand. If you have another type of pet, please get in touch and we will advise whether we can assist or recommend a specialist.
What happens if my flight is changed or cancelled?
We monitor your pet's booking closely and will contact you immediately if any changes occur. We work to rebook on the next available suitable flight as quickly as possible.
